Tenuta Percesepe

The Marquis of Auletta Castle, owned by the Maioli Castriota Scanderbech family, has medieval origins as much as the village, located in the highest part of the historic center of the city.

Over the centuries, the structure underwent some changes and took on its current architectural structure after 1240, following the inspection carried out by the Duke of Calabria, accompanied by the Florentine Antonio Marchesi, an expert in fortifications. Thanks to its strategic position, in 1535 the Castle offered a valid resistance to the assaults of the Spanish troops of Emperor Charles V.

In the following centuries the Castle, after having belonged to the Gesualdo, belonged to the Marquises Vitilio De Gennaro, and then to the Castriota Scanderbech (descendants of Giorgio Castriota Scanderbech, Albanian national hero of the fifteenth century). During the first half of the twentieth century, the Castle also welcomed the last King of Italy, Umberto II of Savoy, and his wife Maria José as guests. The Castle is rich in testimonies of each of these events, which make it a unique place, steeped in history and charm.
